Reporting to the Director Medical Operations or Senior Manager Medical Operations, the Data and Analytics - Operations Manager - Performance Management rolewill partner with cross functional teams, including IS, to ensure timely and high quality delivery. The manager will also ensure optimum development & implementation of technology solutions to support fulfillment of our vision to support performance across Medical capabilities.

The role and associated activities are critical to attaining our vision of being recognized as the most accomplished and respected Medical organization by 2022. This role is accountable for all global medical performance management responsibilities which includes ensuring standardization, training, quality, and timely delivery across various global medical capabilities.

This individual achieves results through rigorous goal setting, accountability measures, effective cross-functional collaboration, performance management, and by building strong partnerships with other groups. The chosen individual is committed to serving customers both inside and outside of Global Medical Operations. Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:
  • Leads and facilitates operational activities to plan, build, implement, launch and maintain the capability in accordance with capability strategies, goals & roadmap
  • Partners with the capability leads, the Medical Leadership team and cross functional units to execute process, technology and analytics improvements for the capability
  • Develop and own the analytics Roadmap for the functions.
  • Leads the build/ assessment/ maintenance of the end to end capability (Process, System and Reports) lifecycle management, upgrade and enhancements in partnership with Information Systems
  • Establishes active communication lines with all applicable teams across functions and geographies and ensures global alignment with the implementation of innovations and improvements in analytics solutions
  • Serve as authority, advocate and as domain expert for Data, Analytics and metrics in designated capability and act as a consultant
  • Champion Global Medical's vision of building an Advanced Analytics Platform with industry leading analytics tools and technologies to enable Amgen to continue to be the Industry leader in this space
  • Lead cross capability discovery exercises and collaborate with vendors to execute proof of concepts and prototypes to identify the right technology solutions for Amgen
  • Enable Capability leads to glean insights from huge volumes of data by deploying and Data Science based solutions.
  • Lead or champion delivery of Key Performance metrics and other analytics on an ongoing basis while continuously improving and innovating for higher performance
  • Drive innovation in the analytics space by continually assessing emerging technologies and solutions in the Medical space and by incorporating AI, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing techniques and tools to support advanced analytics needs
  • Ensure that the expectations of the Global Medical Leadership and end users of the various functions are met and exceeded with quality delivery in a timely manner
  • Own the development & updates for controlled documents, propose and implement processes and policies to improve the capability
  • Own all relevant training material, updates, technology related to the systems/process and partner with the appropriate training experts and establish pathways to assess and understand the educational needs of the capability audience
  • Drives development and execution of Training and supports user adoption of the analytics tools
  • Support recruitment, coaching, mentoring and development of the team members
  • Support vendor management
  • Oversee quality controls and assist in responding to audit findings

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree


Master's degree and 2 years of work experience


Bachelor's degree and 4 years of work experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of work experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of work experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in life science, computer science, business administration or related discipline
  • 6+ years' experience in implementing and managing analytics platforms and technologies in the Pharmaceutical or Biotech arena
  • 4+ years' experience in leading and managing systems or analytics projects and programs

  • 2+ years' work experience in information technologies/information systems and Big Data technologies
  • Strong understanding and experience in the use of performance management techniques, measures, problem solving and analytical thinking
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry guidelines, Good Clinical Practice and legal/health system environment
  • Proficient in application software and analytical development methodologies in a validated system environment
  • Proficient in analytics and interpretation and has business acumen and subject matter expertise and able to present insights to a wide variety of audiences
  • Proficiency in Analytics tools like Tableau/Spotfire is preferred
  • Experience with implementation of solutions with AI / ML technologies
  • Drug development and clinical trials processes
  • Clinical trial databases and applications
  • Effective working in a team/matrix environment
  • Experience in Medical Affairs is preferred
  • Strong project management experience
  • Specialist knowledge / experience in life sciences, computer science or a medically related field
  • General biopharmaceutical clinical research experience obtained working on clinical trials at a biotech, pharmaceutical or CRO company
