Job Description

We are working with a well established, highly regarded private bilingual international school in Beijing, that is opening their second school in Beijing in August 2020 to appoint a Founding Academic Principal.

The successful candidate ( the Founding Academic Principal) will be a highly experienced leader in education who will act as instructional leader for the entire school. It is strongly preferred that the candidate have a solid understanding of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary and Middle Years Programme, progressive models of learning, and international accreditation systems. The curriculum will follow the Chinese national standards, and be guided by the pedagogy of IB PYP and MYP.

We can provide applicants with a full job description but the main duties for the Founding Academic Principal will be to

Serve as chief academic administrator of the school. Develop and implement programs, curricula and instruction in a manner that promotes the holistic development of each student, and the professional development of each staff member;

Implementation of the mission and goals of the school, including a commitment to social emotional learning, arts and music, and creative problem solving, while establishing procedures and schedules;

Successful candidates will have the following background but as this is a brand new school those who have a proven track record of leading a successful bilingual international school using the IB curriculum( and ideally doing so in China) as the founding Principal or Headmaster will be prioritised

  • A Master's degree or higher with specialization in Education, Administration, or relevant professional fields;
  • At least five years of teaching experience and three years of senior management experience in IB education;
  • An understanding of quality Western and Chinese education systems;
  • An understanding of international post secondary courses as well as the needs and requirements of international students;
  • Experience using academic and non-academic assessment to ensure fidelity in meeting standards;
  • Has experience with cultivating the potential of academic programs;
  • Proven planning and organizational skills and an ability to take initiative with curriculum and policy objectives
  • Financial competence;
  • The ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure; particularly in a newly established school environment;
  • A confident leader who can build strong relationships with students.
  • A strong desire to learn, improve personal teaching and management skills, and the ability to adapt;
  • A role model of integrity, honesty, and ethical standards;
  • An enduring enthusiasm and positive attitude;
